Frequently Asked Questions
FAQs
What exactly is Rescue Beans Co?
Rescue Beans is a woman-owned company that was founded to help fund animal rescue.
We are committed to ethically sourcing sustainably harvested beans and roasting those beans to make excellent coffee to sell to coffee and animal lovers alike, so we can all save more lives.
At least 30% of profits from every sale are donated to Cage to Couch, a 501(c)(3) all-volunteer run nonprofit organization whose mission is to rescue animals from laboratory testing, as well as other animals who have suffered abandonment and cruelty and abuse, especially senior dogs and cats and those with serious medical needs.Â
We wanted to create a way for others to help save lives and thought, "A lot of people who love animals drink coffee, right? They could turn that cup of coffee into a cup of compassion by buying Rescue Beans."
And just like that, we went into the coffee roasting business.
How do I know you're actually donating money to rescue?
We will be sharing our impact here on our website under the "Mission and Impact" tab. Our intention is to be transparent, even if it means we're showing that we donated $25 to Cage to Couch for the month of July. The important thing is to start. Animals who can't help themselves can't wait.
Eventually, we're hoping that we can help other small rescues, too.
Big dreams are gonna take a whole lotta beans.
Where does your coffee come from?
The green beans for our current roasts, Cuppa, and The Slightly Askew Brew, are sourced from Mexico and Sumatra, respectively.
We roast our coffee at an ingenious place called The California Roasting Collective, a co-roastery where coffee lovers (and animal lovers!) can roast coffee and start their own little bean businesses without tens of thousands of dollars, and, in our case, save some lives in the process.Â
What is the shelf life of your coffee?
We include the date the beans were roasted on our packages and the "Best By" date is nine months from the day of roasting.Â
We nitro-flush all of our bags, which is the process of using nitrogen gas to remove oxygen from the package, and that greatly increases freshness and shelf life.
We also are small and just getting started and are roasting in VERY small batches, so our inventory is as fresh as possible.Â
FYI: If you need to store extra coffee, we do NOT recommend freezing coffee, as freezing negatively impacts the quality and flavor of the beans. It's recommend to store coffee in a cool dark place.
Will you be adding more bean varieties?
Yes, we certainly intend to add more beans and roasts! We're considering a decaf, an espresso, getting into cold brew... what else?
We are fueled by coffee and we're excited about new brews, but we're starting with two basic roasts, a medium/light roast called Cuppa, and a dark roast called The Slightly Askew Brew.Â
We're drinking a lot of coffee as we test and learn. A lot of coffee.
